The Purpose of Eastern Suburbs Collaborative
The purpose of Eastern Suburbs Collaborative is to bring together people of goodwill who: -
- Instinctively warm to the idea of working together
- Know that collaboration gets better results for less effort
- Feel learning the truth can be better than winning the debate
- Understand collaboration gives parties access to more resources
- Knows that TEAM can stand for Together Everyone Achieves More
- Believe that sharing news and information can be of vital importance

Our Role Is To Provide A Platform - Not Run a Network
Our job is not to run a network, but to provide resources that help people share information within their own groups and also with the whole community. Our role is to provide a structure that makes it easier for people to find other people with whom to collaborate and the facilitate collaboration.
Why Are We Doing This?
We are doing this because our communities are becoming fragmented and people of goodwill need a place to work together in constructive and innovative ways. We need to help people find better ways to do what they are already doing and also pioneer completely new ways of doing things. What better place than a melting pot open to new ideas and to helping each other.
It's a Community Project - We're All In The Same Room
We see what we're doing as a community project in which everyone can take part. So the news that you see online, or in hard copy is created by everyone working together. It's a project that keeps money in the local community and allows us to engage with people from all walks of life. And modern technology puts all our staff, supporters and clients "in one room", where they work together.

Collaboration Can Be Simple and Effective
Collaboration can be as easy as handing out cards like the one below. It's simple and get the following results: -
- You get a feeling that you have helped someone
- The person who accepts the card feels they've been helped
- If they use the card they can see Eastern Suburbs News all in one place
- They can also access the Eastern Suburbs Community Directory to find services
- If they go ahead and contact someone and do business with them that person will benefit too
- You may even be the person they contact. If not you're still part of a team where people help each other
Where We Fit In The Scheme of Things
Competition and Collaboration are the Yin and Yang that drive the world, and our political systems are based on competition, where one side wins and the other loses (sometimes with truth as collateral damage.) Left to run its course the end result is one winner standing at the top of a hill with no-one left to fight.
By contrast collaboration seeks the win-win outcomes that empower all participants and build the kind of societies we like to live in. The collaborative is about bringing together people of goodwill and reason to counterbalance the shrill voices of those who wish only to compete and dominate.
A bit like the ballast a ship needs to remain balanced and sail safely.
